Last year I bought a Dell computer online for my lovely wife Liz—and it worked great! That is, it worked great for just over one year. On June 19 it still worked great. On June 20, it refused to start. The screen went black and white, with a big black dot in the corner. Nothing could be accessed. Apparently all files have been lost. All private files, all business files, all chess files … lost!

So then … Two days on the phone with Dell. That is to say, with the wonderful ladies and gentlemen from India who take no responsibility, won’t call you back, shift you from department to department over two days, and finally say there’s nothing they can do.

I said, I’ll give you an option: I’ll sue you in Small Claims court. Since they had nothing to say to that, I am going ahead: I have written first to Michael Dell, 41st richest man in the country according to Wikipedia: I’m sure he’ll do the right thing and replace the computer … Not!

Is anyone up for a class action suit against Dell?

  1. From my understanding there are already class actions against Dell going on regading Dell selling faulty computers. I just happen to also be a casulty (Inspiron One 2305 Touch). Bought in August of 2011, failed in April of 2012 (repaired) and failed again a few days ago (August 2012). My year is up, but I have started my first round with the BBB, next i am writing letters to the state corporation commission and attorney general about Dell’s business practices. I now have a new computer and whether or not I ever get vindicated is of no concern to me. I just want to make sure that people KNOW that Dell is not the same company it was 7 years ago. Buy Dell at your own risk.

  2. Arzona…. Same issue here with a Inspiron One 2305 that we purchased on 7/28/2011 and the unit had black screen issues out of the box. It got worst as the months went on and then in May 2012 the unit refused to power up with a screen that worked. Dell service “fixed” the issue on May 19th 2012 and the unit worked fine until August 6 2012. That day I forwarded the email from dell service as instructed in the email they sent me after the May repair. That email went to servicedesk2@dell.com and I did not received a response or a mail server failure notice from gmail. I also resent “forwarded” the same email request to the same email address as supplied by Dell on October 15 2012. Again No Reply.

Tonight I called Dell 800-624-9899 at 7:04pm EST and was transferred after explaining my issue from department to department. I was then hung up on at 8:19pm EST by a Dell rep who said his name was “Patrick”. I called back and then a female whom took the call also hung up on me. At 8:23pm EST I was able to reach Jason who informed me his real name was Csetan however it would be pronounced close to Jason so he used that name. Nice guy that tried to help however said he could only help with Software out of warranty. I explained that this issue started under warranty and was never corrected under warranty and thus it should be repaired again under warranty. He informed me that the warranty expired in September 2012. I pointed out that my August 6th email was sent with in that warranty then so it should be fixed. He then advised me of the need to transfer me to the Hardware Department. I then spent from 9:05pm EST to 9:20pm EST talking to Tommy who also informed me that it was not covered and they had nothing they could offer. We are not the only DELL customers having issues with sub par machines sold to us as premium units. This only helps me see that Dell has changed direction from offering high quality to just invest in fancy expensive ads and sell trash to the masses. My job now is Educate the Masses!!!

  3. Yes! Yes! Yes!

I have a 7 month old laptop I have been trying to get repaired (still under all warranties) since Dec 4th!
I have spent 2-8 hrs a day on the phone with holds, transfers, and disconnections! And still no resolution!!
I am done! There is nothing more I would love to join!!
