The Western Class tournament in Agoura Hills (March 9-11) is coming up in one week. I’ve won in Agoura before, and I usually do well there—but how to play now in this economic climate?

There was a time, not so long ago, when the top 25% could all claim to be “well off” as we said then, and sponsoring an IM for a tournament was no big deal. But now that the 1% owns everything, the other 99—even if you’re near the top of that group—are struggling as never before.

So most likely I won’t play, which means one will see the usual spectacle of the top rated players drawing against each other, while defeating the lower players in professional but boring style, with a tie for first most likely.

With me there, of course, one might get a King’s Gambit or a Budapest, and I’ll play for a win against anyone—if I get a sponsor of course.

If you are interested, please contact me as soon as possible.
